'Maniac' Iannone in Aprilia for two seasons

Team Suzuki Ecstar's Andrea "Maniac" Iannone have signed a two-season contract that will take him from Suzuki to Aprilia Racing Team Gresini. In this way Iannone will partner Aleix Espargaro at the Italian factory after Suzuki had earlier announced to have parted ways with the Italian. Such announcement, leads also to the acknowledgement that Brit Scott Redding will leave Aprilia at the end of this after just one year and poor results with the team.

This year and after the move from Ducati to Suzuki, Iannone have secured two consecutive podiums (Austin and Jerez) raising his overall score in the premier class to a total of nine. Besides the two podium's this year, Iannone managed also to finish fourth on home soil at Mugello last week.

The 28-year-old Italian rider will now join forces with Espargaro in a battle to take the RS-GP to a new and hopefully better development level.

As remarked Aprilia Racing Manager, Romano Albesiano, “With Iannone, we have another highly talented and fast rider who is also demonstrating his value this season. His arrival is a sign of the Piaggio Group and Aprilia's growing commitment to the MotoGP programme, where our bike has already demonstrated that it can rely on a valid technical base."

Team Manager Fausto Gresini added on the words of Albesiano to say, “The combination of Iannone and Aprilia will be fantastic - one of the most interesting in MotoGP - and it has the potential to bring great results. Andrea is a strong, fast and concrete rider. I think that he will be able to provide great support for the team and contribute to the development of the bike," noting also the undeniable interest from the team to have an Italian rider, riding an Italian bike.
